Why Fernsprechbuch Uses Face ID
Secure access to operational railway entries
Why Face ID is used
The digital railway logbook may contain sensitive operational entries and communication documentation. For this reason, the app supports Face ID as an additional security mechanism.
Face ID helps prevent unauthorized persons from accessing existing entries or creating new entries under another person's identity.
The biometric device authentication is used solely to protect the application and the locally stored data on the device.
Additional protection for entries
Entries within the railway logbook can additionally be confirmed through device authentication.
This creates an additional layer of security so that entries can be associated with the authorized person using the device.
Face ID authentication does not replace operational railway rules, approvals or official procedures.
No storage of biometric data
The application itself does not store biometric information such as facial scans or fingerprints.
Authentication is handled entirely through Apple's built-in iPhone security systems.
Fernsprechbuch only receives confirmation whether the authentication was successful.
